zip files question

I zipped up three image files at WebbyWarehouse and used the file mover to bring the zipped file to Domania. Now I can't find a way to unzip the files in the file manager.

I then tried to use the directory mover to accomplish the same task (moving three image files at once) but only get a large error message in geek-speak that seems to say they can't find the Webby url.

How should I go about importing several image files at once to my Domania account?

Thanks--Jim

directory mover

Hi Jim and welcome to the forum. :)

You should be able to use the directory mover to move several images at a time. Make sure all the images you want to move are in the same directory. Also, make sure you don't have your directory blocked somehow. Go to the directory mover and put in the url for the directory containing the imgs, make sure the option to upload images is checked, and submit. You should see a listing of all the contents of the directory and you will be able to choose which files to move. I used our directory mover earlier today and it's working fine, so you should have no problems moving your files.

Let us know if you still have a problem with it.

I just now tried getting

I just now tried getting http://webbywarehouse.com and it arrived OK.

I just now tried unzipping files in both the zip format that Phil Katz popularized for the Windows desktop, and in the tarball zip format that is standard for the internet, and didn't have any trouble. (And I tried both the .tgz and .tar.gz names for the unix zip files.)

Could you private-message me with a URL you cannot get, and the URL of the file you can't unzip, so I can investigate further?

I don't like to see obscurantist sesquipedalianisms where simple words will do. It's not a matter of etymology but one of clarity.

zip files

Sometimes the way things work is not obvious to a new user. When you said you had no trouble unzipping files, it tipped me off that I just wasn't seeing something.

A little playing around and I discovered that a zipped file in the file manager must be appended with .zip in order to see an "unzip" button to click on. Once I renamed the file it unzipped just fine.

Now I'll see if I can discover what I'm doing wrong on the directory mover function.

Thanks--Jim

re: zip files

Hi Jim :)

Yes, the unzip option appears to the right of any zipped file. You will also find other options there, depending upon the file type. (for example, pdf to html if you have a file with the pdf extension, wav to mp3 for files with the wav extension, etc.) At the top of your file manager, you'll see a link to the Help file, this will give you more detailed instructions on how to use all the tools and options here.

Please post if you are still having a problem with the directory mover or if you have questions about any of the tools, and we'll be glad to help.

Welcome to Domania. :)
