midis not playing in my webpages

Yesterday noticed that none of the midis are playing in my webpages....yet they have always played perfectly so have no idea what the problem is...checked the coding and all is well...when I click a midi in my music directory in file manager, it plays just fine...had a few friends click into my webpages and since they can hear the midis it leads me to believe the problem is with my laptop...but why is I can hear all midis, wavs and so on, just fine everywhere except on my own webpages.......can anyone please help with a suggestion or whatever........Annemarie

You'll have to post the problem page(s) me thinks

Thank you for responding

Thank you for responding Spacebeagle.....the day before noticing the midi problem, had downloaded Windows Media Player 11..well it turns out that was the culprit...as soon as I removed the program and went back to WMP10, the midis could once again, be heard.....very strange..........Annemarie

I've heard other complaints

I've heard other complaints about WMP 11, but it's the first time I've heard THAT one.

I had tried a number of your pages, and had the same experience as your friends: the MID files played just fine. I have WMP 11, but my system is set up to play MID files in WinAmp, not WMP.

The fact that you were having trouble playing your own MID files, but not MID files on other sites suggests that there should be a difference in how the pages are coded, but I couldn't detect any particular problems with your pages - and, like I said, your pages worked just fine for me. I wondered if perhaps I was looking at the wrong pages, since you didn't mention any specific ones.

Microsoft and Apple have released a lot of software updates recently that were buggy, and both are getting hit pretty hard with complaints about that, on Slashdot and other sites for nerds. There are scattered complaints about a few other programs, such as Adobe Reader, but most companies are doing OK with most of their updates.

A few years ago, the best and brightest of the new college graduates wanted to write code for Microsoft or Apple, at least to begin with, but these days, they are heading to Google, or to new startups, because those companies are growing much faster, and have much greater opportunities for advancement. I think that's part of the problem for those two companies right now. The same thing happened a few years ago for Yahoo and Sun, and those companies are now hurting....
