Missing Images

Paul,
I hadnt reveiwed my pages in months and on doing so have found many missing images. Some i have replaced with other images but a few i would really like to keep if possible. I have started putting together a page listing the images. I have a few more directories to check still, backgrounds and family photos. I can replace the family photos easily enough. The images in the directory names_words are the most important to recover, if a recovery is possible. There were many that i deleted if i remembered what they were and was sure i wouldnt need them in the future or the list would be much longer. I wouldnt mind an explanation for this rather large disappearance if there is one. If none of the images are recoverable please let me know as they are still taking up space in the gas gauge.. ;)

Thanks .. Barbara

Well... couldnt get that to work, dont know why, works everywhere else. Have to type it in the address bar i guess... lol

One of those lines

One of those lines -
http://d21c.com/bthelioness/names_words/bthelioness
- isn't an image. It's a symbolic link. It's not doing anything, though, so I deleted it.

The last image on the list, http://d21c.com/bthelioness/pictures/deerhunter-rs.jpg
is, indeed, not there.

I created a page, http://d21c.com/bthelioness/amissingimg.html, with the rest of the URLs, and they all work. Could there be a problem with your HTML?

wrong html

Paul i might think it was the html but most of those images arent on a page anywhere.. they arent in the directories, or at least wont load when i click on them (the dreaded little red X).. but they still show the kb amounts.. as a matter of fact the amissingimg.html page you made comes up with a 404 error file not found.. so i cant see them on that page either. When i saw some missing on a few pages.. i went to every directory and clicked on every image in it except for the couple i mentioned i hadnt gotten done. So i am clueless. i will send your page to my sister and see if it shows on hers.

Thanks Paul for any help you can give.

Re: wrong html

I also was given *page not found* so I got looking and saw that you had a capital A in your URL Barbara so I changed that in Paul's URL and it worked... But all it has is a bunch of red X's and no images...

Barbara was this the pic you are missing completely...??

Barbara, I took one of your

Barbara,

I took one of your URLs and took it to Gif Works and by changing the size by 1 the picture worked again...

Your URL..
http://d21c.com/bthelioness/people/bridegroom01.gif

MINE
http://d21c.com/spider/domania/bridegroom01.gif

This is something that I can not explain but I have had to do this myself to many gif I have... I saw in post outside of Domania or Webtv groups that this happens sometimes.... If you want me to I could get the rest of your missing items during my weekend working again... I need to get ready for work now as I need to make several stops on the way to work tonight.... Let me know....

I originally looked at the

I originally looked at the page in SeaMonkey.

I tried it in MSIE/7, and I get the red Xs.
I tried it in FireFox, and the images are OK.
I tried it in MSNTV Viewer and image 13, http://d21c.com/bthelioness/floral_foilage/rosehrt.gif
(the heart of roses,
sorta lying on its side) - is a blank square, everything else is OK

Well, everything except for image #50, http://d21c.com/bthelioness/pictures/deerhunter-rs.jpg, which doesn't exist on the server.

I don't know what the story is on MSIE/7 not rendering those images.

I took the first image, which is http://d21c.com/bthelioness/outside_weather/whtgatel.gif and converted it to BMP using Irfanview, then converted it to PNG, and converted it to GIF as "test.gif".

When I used drag-and-drop from the desktop, IE7 gave me the X icon for the original GIF, displayed the BMP, displayed the PNG, and displayed test.gif.

However, converting GIF to BMP and back to GIF again should result in the same image size. It didn't. The original GIF was 4332 bytes, and test.gif was 5132 bytes.

I don't know how it happened, Barbara, but you have a bunch of GIF images that are unacceptable to IE7, even though they are acceptable to other programs.

Darn images!

I fired up the old dinosaur which has IE-6 and was what i was using when i uploaded the images and that i made the pages they are on with.. it cant see them either. Unless they can be seen by IE also its not much use to put 'em on a page..

Hey.. Spider! You found the old deerhunter! You sweetie. I havent been able to get gifworks to work for me in a long time. tried uploading from my account and from the hard drive. it uploads the img, the little box comes up for me to tell it what i want, i click ok.. but the image never changes. I have used them for years and thought they had quit the site. do you have to be a member now? the only thing i ever saw was to sign up for angelfire. if i could make it work i could do the imgs myself. i couldnt possibly ask you to spend so much of your time changing so many images. AND.. i havent went through the biggest directory.. the backgrounds. i really dont think there will be too many of those though unless it is animated. i can see the image of the bride and groom you did. i have seen some strange things and this rates right up at the top.. :) I will hold onto the imgs for a bit.. maybe something will come up or MSIE will fix something...yeah.. right. dont hold your breath on that one ;)

Thanks Paul and Spider appreciate all the help.

Re: Darn images!

Hello Barbara,

Yes when I do something like that to help somebody I try to keep the image either on my hard drive or in this case in my account here as the URL was posted and I never liked dead links... That's why I still had the deer hunter picture...

This is something that has been going on for maybe a couple of years with me... It's not a Domania problem as it will happen on other servers as well... I asked Craig to look into it once and he said it had to be a Internet Explorer problem...

I found that when I have a gif that does this and I have this item on my hard drive already it won't work from there either... So.... Who knows....... I remember reading in different news groups ((non webtv))how many other servers had the same trouble.... Oh they do start working sometimes after a month or two.... LOL

Barbara I don't have anything to do all weekend and would love to help you out... So..... With that said..... I'm going to start fixing each of your URLS... Craig was the one that found out you could run them through Gif Works and get them to work again by changing the size...

Re: files

Hello Barbara,

Well I have your Urls all working once again for you... Instead of resizing them I just used the resize tool but kept them the same size as they were....

I placed them into a zip file so you'll only need to up-load one file instead of a bunch... After you get them into your account just click on the unzip link to the right of the file in your file manager...

Thank You

Thank You so much Spider! It took a while but i got all the images back in their right folders. What would i do without my domania brother.. a little kiss on the cheek for you love. I really appreciate the effort it took on your part.
