Paul do you register domains?

And what price can I get for web-user.info if it is available?

Oh and what is this trackbacks all about below?

bud

Yes, we register domains.

Yes, we register domains.

The web-user.info domain was registered 27-Jun-2005 by the pool.com people. They're offering the domain for sale, but you can expect that it will be expensive.

COM, NET and ORG are also gone. Unless people start calling you web-user as a nickname, you aren't allowed to register web-user.name. Unless you are going to use it for a bona-fide business, you aren't allowed to register web-user.biz.

But you could register web-user.us, and it's available. We charge $10/year, and that includes free proxy registration if you want that.

A trackback URL is a linkback. If you see a topic discussed elsewhere, and wish to discuss it here, it's a courtesy to ping the other site, so that they can (if they wish) let users at the other site know about the discussion here.

When you start a new topic, there's a box for you to enter trackback URLs in.

There's a trackback URL posted on our site, for them to ping us.

People may be wondering about technorati links. I post them at the end of my blog posts. They help people find our discussions, and help our readers find related discussions on blogs.

I built and installed a link generator at http://paulding.net/bin/techni.cgi that you can use. Specify "visible links" and paste in the links at the very end of your post, with a <!--break--> at the very end. Whether invisible or invisible, it'll help others find our discussions. Visible links help our users find their discussions.

Domain registration isn't a

Domain registration isn't a profitable business by itself. The GoDaddy folks use it to sell hosting, and some of the other registrars follow suit.

The RegisterFly folks were losing money, and not taking proper care of their customers, so they lost their accreditation. Now, their customers are having to scramble to get their domains back. It's a really nasty mess.

It would have taken very little effort for Randall to transfer all those domains to someone who was familiar with the WebTV community, who would have known who each domain belonged to. I can understand Randall being financially embarassed, when it came to hosting, but there's no excuse for the mess with the domain names.

Some of the people who had domains registered through Randall were able to reclaim them through the registrar Randall did business with, but not many. And the registrar didn't know whose domain was whose, so they were really taking a big risk when they turned over a domain name to someone, just for the asking.
