David Halberstam died yesterday, in a car crash near San Francisco. He was 73.
It surprises me that he was that old. I knew that he was older than me, maybe 10 or 20 years older, but that should make him in his 40s, right? Oops. I guess the batteries in my calendar must have run down.
There's a nice interview with him, at http://www.nashvillepost.com/news/2007/4/24/nashville_was_my_graduate_school
He won his Pulitzer for the stories he wrote in Vietnam, but he won hearts writing about baseball.
