Hi Barbara; I won't be calling. I wrote to Sherry. Haven't checked if she replied. If he went on vacation he would have said something. He just seems to have disappeared. Nightwing PaulSubmitted by Nightwing on August 21, 2007 - 8:43pm.
At least the account is still active. Hope it is for the next year. No reply from Sherry. Nightwing PaulSubmitted by Nightwing on August 21, 2007 - 8:52pm.
Really Beginning to Worry about Paul Ding Group: alt.online-service.webtv Date: Mon, Aug 20, 2007, 10:23pm (EDT-3) From: xxxx@hotmail.com The last time i saw anythingSubmitted by lioness on August 22, 2007 - 1:03am.
The last time i saw anything posted was when he fixed the .sho file in answer to my post about it (aug. 8th). he has usually posted in his blog by now but since the problems with the server came up i hadnt paid any attention to that. it was just a few days before that when my checks cleared the bank so it hasnt been all that long.. just long enough for me to worry about his health. anyone hears anything let us know. Maybe sherry will answer soon. Thanks ... Barbara ![]() I'm here. There have beenSubmitted by Paul Ding on August 22, 2007 - 5:23am.
I'm here. There have been few posts, so I haven't been stopping in every hour or two, like I used to - but I'm answering the toll-free number. I haven't been participating in alt.online-service.webtv for quite some time now. It's been going downhill since Tim Hester disappeared, and if I had more sense, I'd have quit participating a year before I did. Sunday and Monday, I spent a lot of time working on the color grabber. We have the newest version of ImageMagick on this server (6.3.5), and it apparently doesn't like the newest versions of Perl (we're at 5.8.8) when it comes to opening .gif files, which amounts to about 95% of the color grabber traffic. I'm in the process of rewriting the color grabber so it uses the command-line version of ImageMagick. That should be pretty easy, but for some reason it's fighting me. And because it's fighting me, I haven't been able to post an "estimated time" to fix it for Lioness. But someone phoned about source.domania.net, and I got it working again. It seems like the free utilities such as that one, MagickStudio, etc., are always having conniption fits, or running out of bandwidth, and the server automatically shuts them down, in order to protect itself. And someone phoned me, wondering if a subscriber was OK, because she hadn't posted in a discussion list for about 10-12 days, and normally she is a chatterbox, I guess. I took a look, and saw that she had logged into her site a day earlier, so I assured the caller that the subscriber is apparently alive. I suppose she could be sick, but not in the hospital, but if you're very sick, you don't want to do work on your site. I haven't been blogging for a while because I haven't got much to say, that wouldn't be redundant or highly imprudent. I'm an independent, but I'm registered Republican because Pennsylvania doesn't have open primaries, and it feels wrong to me, for me to keep harping about a Democratic congress that spends all its time trying to milk the Gonzales scandal instead of getting us out of Iraq. And the lady who played "Pat" on SNL has written a book about atheism, and I've a few things to say about religious intolerance which now seems to have infected the non-religious as well. On the other hand, I still believe that faith is a very private matter; it feels wrong to criticize ignorant fools for their ignorance and foolishness, yet I can't figure out how to criticize their intolerance without pointing out their ignorance and foolishness, and in any case, I would then become the kind of intolerant ignorant fool that I despise. So I simply sit here, gloating at the fact that they're all going to hell, and ashamed of the fact that I gloat over that fact. And it occurs to me that gloating like that is "intolerance lite". At least, I can *pretend* to be as tolerant as I wish I were. Which means I don't want to blog about that. And if you take away politics and religion, there's not much for me to blog about. I mean, I could whine about the weather, but the folks back in Ohio have it *much* worse, and I could whine about WalMart and Humana, but it occurs to me that I've already done enough of that. Jen tagged me a few weeks ago with "you're it", and I'm supposed to post something like 8 facts about myself that nobody knows, and then impose the same obligation on others. I don't want to let Jen down, but I can't think of 8 things nobody knows about me, at least 8 things worth the pixels, and besides, the whole thing smacks of a "Forward", only for blogging instead of emailing. And that's really the big "blogger's block" I have - if I write, I either dishonor Jen by refusing to go along with her "you're it" or else I dishonor myself by participating in a forward. I'm going to have to make a decision pretty soon, because I don't want to stop blogging completely. Oh, and for the record, I do not (and have never claimed to) own the company.

Phoning is usually the the best way to contact me, Tommy. If there are any questions, I can ask them, and I can usually take care of whatever needs to be done while you're on the phone, so we both know it was taken care of.

Paul I have never met you but sound like a kindred spirit. I am also an independent but list a Republican for the same reason. Doesn't Craig's mother still "own" the company? By the Way I just renewed my d21c.com account for viewerob for 500 MB for $162 per year. Domania is still the best in my opinion. Thanks, Rob. Thanks, Rob. I was watching something on TV a couple of days ago, I don't recall exactly what, but it got me to thinking about the fires that destoyed San Francisco a century ago, and the flood that destroyed New Orleans a couple of years ago. San Francisco rebuilt over the next decade and had phenomenal population growth. New Orleans has had phenomenal depopulation. Part of it is that "the rules have changed". In 1905, in San Francisco, you could throw up a ramshackle building with no government interference. In 2007, you can't build something ramshackle; it has to pass all sorts of inspections. You need permits. What's more, you can't even start until you get flood control in place, and you get water, sewer, and other utilities to your property. Some of the stuff in New Orleans ought not be rebuilt, because it's below sea level. If that's the case, and the property is sufficiently damaged so as to be uninhabitable, it really ought to be torn down. But that means that they need to zone other land so that the people who lived there can build elsewhere. One of the big differences between the red states and the blue states is that blue states have the idea that government needs to do many functions. In red states, people figure that government needs to stay out of the way, so people can do those same functions. Having lived most of my life in red states, and now living in blue states, I can see both sides. If you have a nice house, you don't want someone building a crappy house 75 feet away - that's blue state thinking. If you have 160 acres, though, nobody's going to be *able* to build that close, whether the house is nice or crappy. People from Blue States think that there oughta be laws passed to prevent landowners from clearcutting the Amazon valley. People from Red States figure that if you want to save the Amazon, you ought to put your money where your mouth is, and buy that land you want to save. Mr. Bush was in town yesterday. Boy, it was one heck of a mess. Nobody could go anywhere, because they blocked off all the highways. And while Mr. Bush was here, he explained that he vetoed the SCHIP program, because little kids should buy their own insurance, instead of depending on someone else to furnish it. But if he feels that way, why shouldn't grown-ups in Iraq buy their own government, instead of depending on the blood of American kids to furnish it? Lyndon Johnson said, "We are not about to send American boys 9 or 10 thousand miles away from home to do what Asian boys ought to be doing for themselves." Then he got elected and he did *exactly* what he said he wasn't going to do. And now we've got another VietNam in the mideast, because we're sending American boys and girls 9 or 10 thousand miles to do what Iraqi boys ought to be doing for themselves. We're spending $10 billion *monthly* for our little excursion in Iraq. The SCHIP program costs less than $3 billion monthly, and would have doubled to less than $6 billion if Bush hadn't vetoed it. I think this country needs a good Republican president, but there aren't any running; the GOP is trying hard to get Hillary the nomination because they figure they can beat her, and they may be right. Nobody votes *for* a presidential candidate these days. They vote *against* one.

Paul on quite a few occasions you have stated that you do not own Domania....yet when asked, who is the owner, you have never given an answer.... I, as well as quite a few Domania members are curious......considering the fact we are loyal members, making payments to a company, that we assumed you owned and now knowing that you do not, it seems a fair question as to who the owner is....... so how about cluing us in.....Annemarie |
