The freeloader and sourcer

The freeloader and sourcer are moving to another server. I need to make some minor changes to the source code, but I anticipate that being finished later today.

Some people will also have a problem in that their ISP's domain name servers are misconfigured, and thus are not yet reporting the new IP for the site. For those people, it may take several days before they can reach the new site. For most people, this should not be a problem.

Freeloader and Sourcer

Paul, is the Freeloader and Sourcer tool working yet because if it is, I still am unable to enter the site. Either the page cannot be found or I am not allowed to enter that site. So would you be so kind as to let us know just what the problem is? I really miss not being able to use that tool. Thank you!

Hattie

They are both working now -

They are both working now - I tested them both.

But yes, there *was* a problem.

source.domania.net

Thank you, Paul! This is one tool I don't ever want to live without. I don't know or understand why I couldn't access the site but whatever you did - works for me! Thank you ever so much.

source.domania.net

Am having trouble with 'source.domania.net' again. MSN can't seem to find the page today. This is on one of my 'F' keys so I can't be typing the wrong address - unless it has been changed. Am beginning to wonder if it has. Well, am going to give it a rest, shut my unit down and go out and enjoy the beautiful day here in the SE. Perhaps when I return back home this evening MSN will have solved the problem! Yeah, sure! I don't look forward to MSN solving anything, but I know Paul will. Appreciate you checking this out again, Paul. Thank you!

Hattie!

source.domania.net

Paul - I was successful in using source.domania.net a couple of times on Suday, and again this morning. But on both days went back into the site and was not able to enter it. As a matter of fact I did some work on that site earlier today, just wanted to use it again and this is the message that appeared on my screen:

I've never seen that message ever! And I still can't get into the Freeeloader. Is it possible that something here with my TV2 is 'not right'? All this is such a mystery - every so often I am able to enter the Freeloader - other times MSN can't find the page, I am not allowed to enter that site, there is no such address, and now the one above. Am really baffled - am I the only other one beside Nightwing having this trouble? Oh, just for info again, I use my F1 key to enter the Freeloader.

No, you're not the only one

No, you're not the only one besides Nightwing having the trouble.

I run software on all the servers that predicts hard drive problems. It's incredibly difficult to diagnose problems that haven't occurred yet, so this software is extremely sensitive. Harry Truman once joked about economists having predicted eleven of the past three recessions, and that's how this software is.

But when it starts predicting problems five times a day instead of five times a week, I pay attention. Only the paranoid survive, you know. Almost two weeks ago. I moved all but a couple of development sites off Jasper, and mostly just let it sit there, waiting to see what would happen. Nothing happened. I decided to stress-test the server by adding freeload.domania.net and source.domania.net to the server; they don't have many files to worry about, but they are constantly writing to the disk, so that would give Jasper extra exercise. I still wasn't sure the drive could be trusted.

And today, I found out. Properly cared for, electronic equipment tends to have problems very soon after installation, or else it lasts a long, long, time. The drive has died, and has now been replaced.

Usually, problems like this are drive problems. After all, it has moving parts. However, since this is a pretty new server, I can't be sure it's not chips on the motherboard that are at fault. Consequently, I've set up a script to do lots of disk reads and disk writes. I'll check it around noon, to see if the drive seems to be functioning OK. If so, I'll harden the system (installation and testing typically takes 12-15 hours), and should have the source and freeload sites functioning Thursday morning.

I don't like to see obscurantist sesquipedalianisms where simple words will do, but it's not a matter of etymology, it's one of clarity.

Mr. Ding,I've just seen

Mr. Ding,

I've just seen your reply to Hattie so I guess I will just have to wait and see what transpires. Did I place my Freeloader questions in the wrong place? I'm getting very confused with this new forum.

Sincerely,
Nightwing
